Welcome to Hagley Dance Company

Formed in 2000 the Hagley Dance Company offers a fulltime one-year course for students wishing to extend their dance training and prepare for tertiary study. The course has been designed to provide students with the necessary skills and abilities they will need when auditioning for places in the New Zealand School of Dance and UNITEC School of Dance.

The course runs as a year long programme focusing on the three core aspects of

• technique
• performance
• choreography

Students are also given the opportunity to gain NCEA credits (Level 3) and/or specific NZQA credits.

We have a challenging performance schedule throughout the year which means we are in a constant state of rehearsal. As well as our own dedicated seasons we are also involved with a number of other dance projects and special events. Recent opportunities have included Christchurch's Body Festival and the 150th Celebrations for Hagley College.

In 2010 we began offering weekly classes to young people through a new programme called Young Dance as well as continuing our once-weekly contemporary classes for adult students.

For members of the fulltime Company personal discipline is essential and it is expected that students will commit extra hours (outside of scheduled classes) to work on assessments, rehearsal, preparation and performance.Class participation is highly important and a 90% attendance rate must be achieved to attain pass levels.
