Programme of Study

Students of Hagley Dance Company will engage with a number of experienced tutors and performers. Tuition will lead to public performance and students are expected to devote both time and energy to the staging of our major seasons.

Regular timetabled classes are held onsite and include;

• contemporary dance
• classical ballet
• choreography (solo and group)
• repertoire
• performance and production

Throughout the year Hagley Dance Company take advantage of various tutors and performance opportunities to further student learning and experience. Examples of additional study modules include;

• pilates and yoga
• improvisation
• jazz and funk
• hip hop
• traditional dance (such as Indian, Maori & Pacific Island)
• health and nutrition

Performance experiences depend on availability but in the past we have been pleased to accept;

• FREE entry to Hagley Theatre Company performance seasons
• FREE entry to Court Theatre dress rehearsals
• discounted entry to Christchurch Arts Festival events
• master classes and workshops from Royal New Zealand Ballet
• visits and workshops from various visiting artists

Fees for the 2012 academic year have been set at $950.00 which includes all tuition. A College enrolment fee also applies to a maximum of $180.00. Additional fees apply for those wishing to claim NZQA credits and some course costs may apply depending on the opportunities available. While students of Hagley Dance Company are NOT eligible for a student loan some students may be able to claim a Student Allowance. Please check with your local WINZ office.

Successful students show a willingness to learn and a desire to be a part of a dynamic and innovative Company.

Entry to the programme is via interview and audition. Further information will be supplied once an application has been received.
